Aquarelliste. - Photographe, il ouvre en 1871 un atelier à Yokohama (Japon), sous
le nom : "Stillfried & Co." En 1875, il s'associe au photographe Hermann Andersen.
Le studio change alors de nom et devient : "Stillfried & Andersen" (aussi connu sous
le nom : "Japan Photographic Association"). En 1877, la firme "Stillfried & Andersen"
rachète le fonds de Felice Beato. En 1886, Kimbei Kusakabe, l'assistant de Stillfried,
lui succède.
