This volume brings together twelve interviews with prominent German film directors: Anne Zohra Berrached, Dietrich Brüggemann, Doris Dörrie, Dominik Graf, Julia von Heinz, Jakob Lass, Yasemin Şamdereli, Angela Schanelec, Simon Verhoeven, David Wnendt, Oliver Ziegenbalg and Christian Zübert. The talks provide deep insights into the logic of contemporary filmmaking and aim at career paths, self-understandings and interactions in the field of film directing in Germany. They also see themselves as a starting point for a study of the conditions of making feature films as well as with the relationship between cinematic structures of reality and social structures in Germany.
