"This book provides a comprehensive account of Ultradian (biorhythms, such as sleep
and awake cycles, of less than 24 hours) and Lateralized (functional specialization
of the brain in the left and right hemispheres) systems, how they interact and control
the ANS - CNS activities of the body and their implications in Psychophysiological
states, such as Anxiety, Depression and Schizophrenia. Psychophysiological States
explores biologic activities that recur in physiological cycles of a measured time
period and the human body?s bilateral asymmetries. This book begins with a historical
perspective on Psychophysiological states. It will discuss the lateralized rhythms
in ultradian studies in such states as awake, asleep at rest and arousal. The book
explores these states through the autonomic nervous system and then the brain and
goes on to regulation of the rest of the body. Shanahoff-Khalsa then will propose
implications in Psychophysiological states, such as Anxiety, Depression and Schizophrenia.
Finally, theories for the mechanisms will be discussed including the activity and
effects of Vagal Nerve Stimulation and Unilateral Forced Nostril breathing."--Publisher's
