Alfred's Castle (GB)

Enclos circulaire fortifié préhistorique (Âge du fer) des Berkshire Downs (Angleterre,
Oxfordshire), derrière Ashdown Park (commune d'Ashbury), qui fut réutilisé à l'époque
romaine (villa). Son nom lui a été donné par des historiens de l'époque victorienne
(19e siècle), qui l'associèrent au roi anglo-saxon Alfred le Grand : selon eux, il
aurait pu se trouver à cet endroit avant d'engager la bataille d'Ashdown (871, victoire
sur les Danois) - ceci bien que le site de la bataille n'ait jamais été formellement
identifié.
