Abbaye de Bénédictins fondée vers 509 par saint Fridolin, reconstruite en 714 et 765.
Elle possédait les reliques du saint martyr Nabor, devenu par allitérations successives
saint Avold. Elle entra au XVIIe siècle dans la congrégation de Saint-Vanne, mais
au XVIIIe siècle la communauté connut un certain relâchement. Il restait 12 religieux
en 1768. L'abbaye fut fermée en 1790.
L'abbaye possédait une très riche bibliothèque, comportant notamment le célèbre Codex Bernensis, le plus ancien martyrologue connu.
