Fondé en 1890 sous l'appellation : "Koninklijke Nederlandsche maatschappij tot exploitatie van petroleumbronnen in Nederlandsch-Indië". - En 1897 prend le nom : "Koninklijke" ou "Dutch" ou "Royal Dutch". - En 1907, fait partie du groupe : "Royal Dutch/Shell group" créé avec la société : "Shell Transport and trading company". - En 1949, l'appellation proprement néerlandaise : "Koninklijke nederlandsche maatschappij tot exploitatie van petroleumbronnen in Nederlandsch-Indië" devient : "Koninklijke nederlandsche petroleum maatschappij". - En 2005, fusion de "Royal Dutch" et de "Shell Transport and trading company" pour créer : "Royal Dutch Shell".
