En 1935, la province de Brandebourg a acquis les archives de Theodor Fontane (1819-1898) et fondé le Theodor-Fontane-Archiv. - Les archives ont été successivement rattachées à la Brandenburgische Landes- und Hochschulbibliothek (après 1948) et à la Deutsche Staatsbibliothek (à partir de 1969), avant de dépendre à nouveau de la province de Brandebourg en 1992, et plus particulièrement de Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv en 2007. - Enfin, Theodor-Fontane-Archiv est devenu un institut de l'Universität Potsdam le 1er juillet 2014.
