הספר מציע אנליזה של הכוחות הפועלים על ההווה הישראלי מתוך המקורות ההיסטוריים והמיתיים של היהדות, ופורש דיון מורכב על הזיקות שבין ההיסטורי לבין שאלות ותובנות מתחום הסוציולוגיה והפסיכואנליזה. מתוך חתירה לפרק ולהבין את יחידת המקום העירומה - המייצגת גאולה עבור הקולקטיב - מציעה פדיה אנליזה המבחינה בין ארבעה ממדי מרחב: הסימבולי, הדמיוני, הממשי והמציאות. כך היא חוקרת כיצד מוטען המרחב - או המרחב-זמן - על המקום, ומציעה ניתוח מורכב של הפערים בין קבוצות שונות הפועלות במקום מתוך תודעה של מרחב וזמן שונים. זהו מחקר אשר מפענח בו-זמנית הליכי הדתה, פונדמנטליזם, כיתתיות וטרטר, וכן את החילון השקוף המתחולל בתוך הדת גופה.
