Jesuit Biblical Studies After Trent fills a great void in scholarship by finally putting
to rest the enduring prejudice that Catholics in the 16th century neglected the study
of Scripture. By studying the work of Franciscus Toletus and Cornelius a Lapide, Dr.
Murray systematically shows that Catholics, just like their Protestant brethren, could
be quality biblical scholars, and that while they lacked the historical and exegetical
knowledge of today, they advanced a hermeneutic that could integrate their faith with
the scholarly study of Scripture. The work should be read by all those interested
in the history of biblical hermeneutics and for those seeking to integrate their faith
with their scholarship
