בספר "מפה לאוזן" פרופ' מירון מנתח את המהות האמנותית, הפסיכולוגית והמטאפיזית של הדיבור השלום-עליכמי. הוא עושה זאת בצורת דיבור משל עצמו, מעין דיאלוג - חיוני, שוטף, לעתים חתרני וכמעט "בלשי" – עם כמה מן הסיפורים המונולוגים העיקריים של הסופר. בספר חמישה תרגומים חדשים של מירון לכתבי שלום עליכם, וביניהם: הקדירה, נשרף, עצה, יוסף, שפרינצה (מתוך טביה החולב). הסיפורים מובאים בספר בשלמותם כשהתרגום החדש והרהוט מעביר את שטף הדיבור של גיבורי שלום עליכם ככל שניתן לתרגום לעשות זאת. כך מנהל הספר שיחה בין הפרשן למחבר, ובין שניהם לקורא.
