Les Allemands vivant aux États-Unis et Américains d'origine allemande pendant la seconde
guerre mondiale ont été internés jusqu'en 1948, trois ans après la fin de la guerre
en Europe, contrairement aux Japonais et Américains d'origine japonaise libérés en
1946. Un tiers des 31000 étrangers ennemis (enemy aliens) internés par le FBI pendant
la deuxième guerre mondiale étaient des Allemands. De plus, les États-Unis ont coopéré
avec l'Amérique Latine en internant 4000 Allemands de cette provenance dans leurs
camps. Enfin, les prisonniers de guerre étrangers pris en Europe étaient emmenés aux
États-Unis pour y être emprisonnés.
