Hagiographie en copte relatant la vie de moines ascètes, particulièrement "Apa Aaron", au sud de l'Égypte au 4e siècle.
L'oeuvre est connue par un seul manuscrit complet, en copte : British Library, Or 7029. - Paphnuce étant un nom très répandu dans l'Égypte chrétienne, la paternité de l'oeuvre est difficile à établir. Il semble cependant admis que le Paphnuce à qui l'on attribue la "Vie d'Onuphre" soit le même que l'auteur de la "Vita Aronis".
Ne pas confondre avec l'"Histoire des moines d'Égypte" (Historia monachorum in Aegypto),
hagiographie en grec, anonyme, du 4e siècle, traduite en latin par Rufin d'Aquilée
