Ancienne cité de Haute-Mésopotamie, sur la rive droite du Petit Zab, identifiée avec
les vestiges de (Tell) Shemsharra, dans l'extrême nord-est de l'actuel Irak. Le site
fut occupé du 6e millénaire avant J.-C. jusqu'au 14e siècle - avec de longues interruptions
-, notamment sous les périodes Hurran et Ur III - où elle était connue comme Shash(sh)urum
(ou Shashrum). Outre un peu plus de 250 tablettes, on a notamment retrouvé les vestiges
d'un palais du 18e siècle avant J.-C..
